Note:

The linux4afrika team decides which packages will be installed for you server configuration.

Some steps have been already done by the linux4afrika team. Nevertheless we refer to the whole install and configuration process to enable you to understand how to proceed in similar cases.

Install:

aptitude install gobby

Further packages will be installed automatically if necessary. 

What is gobby?

Gobby is a free collaborative editor supporting multiple documents in one session and a multi-user chat.  All users could work on the file simultaneously without the need to lock it. 

Why using gobby?

Realtime communication is efficient and influences learning effects in a positive way.

Your are able to discuss exercises and to contribute. Gobby supports multiple documents in one session.

You can even program with other because gobby has syntax highlighting for most programming languages.

Gobby in a terminal server environment

Start a session:

If you want to start an instant session just. Other pupils can join.

Join a session:

Start gobby and click on "join gobby session". You should get a popup that requires the following information:

hostname:

In your terminal server environment it is enough to just type the word localhost

port:

As port let 6522 as default.

Name:

just type your real name.

Colour:

Each user has its own changeable colour to be identified by others. Choose an adequate colour. if you make any changes to a text all the differences you made are highlighted with your color.
