Linuxtag 2007

05/31/2007

Linuxtag 2007 has begun. Some  FreiOSS.net members (Dominik Zunftmeister, Andreas Gimbel, Franz Epple, Bernhard Rein, Michael Schmelzer, Tobias Erlemann, Hans-Peter, Gilla und Jenny Merkel ) came to Berlin to promote our project Linux4Afrika.

Our field reporter Tux  was in the hub and caught first impressions for those who had to stay at home. From the set-up unto the last Eprom burnt - Tux reports the latest news.

Tuesday

At 9 o`clock sharp we stood at our booth at the Fair site with all our utensils. Unfortunately nobody was there except us... the responsible people either.
So we decided to have a fine breakfast first and then catch Franz Epple at the airport. ... At the second attempt we could at least begin to decorate our booth.

You`ll find some snapshots below.

Wednesday

Linux Day has officially started. Media interest in our project was enormous :-)
3Sat (Broadcast Sunday 16:30) and Radiotux visited our booth. The evening ended in the Fire Bar ...

Thursday
We burnt all Eproms and have already got some donations :-) Morals are super - I´ll go on providing you with the latest news.

Ready 4 Linuxtag

The following FreiOSS Members attend Linux4Afrika stand and are looking forward to your visit:

  • Andreas Gimbel
  • Dominik Zunftmeister
  • Franz Epple
  • Gilla Merkel
  • Hans-Peter Merkel

From press: Bernhard Rein
Unfortunately our partner from Tanzania Paul Koyi will not be present. The German Embassy in Dar es Salaam issued the visa too late. Therfore he missed his flight.

4freaks: We burn  EPROMs with rom-o-matic. If you bring own NICs you may burn your own EPROM and test it!

Another Server Donation from datadirect

05/25/2007

Mr. Nieberle, CEO from  datadirect donated us the money to buy another Athlon 64 server. Thank you very much.

Dominik installed Kiwix Wikipedia

05/22/2007

The schools which will receive our Terminalservers might not have online access in the early stage. Therefore Domik Zunftmeister suggested to install an offline Wikipedia. He has chosen Kiwik. It is small enough to fit on the harddrive and still provides enough valuable information. Installation and upgrade procedures will be published in the E-learning part soon.
Thanks for that great job.

A new Partner: Amicale des DOM-TOM

05/21/2007

Linux4Afrika has a new partner: Amicale des DOM-TOM. Their main intension is to bring culture and folklore of the french DOM-TOM to the public. Thank you Francois and all the members for donating a server and monitors.

Second Testing-Session

Testing phase at St. Ursula Highschool Freiburg fully in progress

Students with their IT teacher Mrs. Bleile, principal Mr. Hummel and HPM.

Some highly motivated girls from St. Ursula Highschool are currently in the testing phase for our master solution of Edubuntu Terminal Server. The testing equipment contains one Server and three Thin Clients. Conclusion: "Easy to use and working without problems".

Regio: Ubuntu-Linux4Afrika-Projekt stellt sich vor

02.05.2007
Ein Terminalserver musste also her.
