FreiOSS weekend in Schönwald in the Black Forest; December 4 – 6, 2009
The „traditional“ FreiOSS weekend took place in Schönwald in the the Black Forest from Friday 4 to Sunday 6 December.
When everybody had arrived on Friday it was time for dinner. Alex, Didi and Juri were the cooks who provided the whole group with delicious meals during the whole weekend.
On Friday night there was time for getting to know each other, socializing and of course also exchanging information. This was especially interesting since well-known representatives of the Linux and Debian community were present, such as Heinz Gräsing, the developer of x2go,
Jonas Smedegaard, a Debian developer from Denmark and Kurt Gramlich for SkoleLinux.
On Saturday different workshops and lectures took place. Early in the morning Hans-Peter began by speaking about the software solution which Linux4Africa uses for schools and interesting communication about x2go was possible.
While the „professionals“ were working with Hans-Peter on x2go beginners were introduced by Franz to working on the Linux console. In the afternoon there was time for individual exchange, support and making plans until at 6 p.m. Kurt gave a presentation on SkoleLinux and its use in schools.
After dinner Andreas and Martin reported on their bicycle trip to Africa and showed pictures. The emphasis on their trip was on foreign aid projects, e.g. by Engineers Without Frontiers and especially the L4A projects in Kenya and Tanzania. They got very much involved in this project and shared positive and negative experiences with the L4A group.
The real IT enthusiasts then went on with special interesting projects until late at night.
On Sunday morning the participants were given a survey about the current activities of L4A and future plans were discussed.
After such a lot of opportunities of exchanging knowledge combined with getting to know interesting people and intensifying relations among the (Linux) community everybody was happy and grateful.
